Does Audacity Audio CD recording truly work?

I have read the manuals and past questions and comments, but can’t get a real answer as to whether or not Audacity will actually burn the audio (that took me two hours to mix and figure out) on a hard compact disc! All I get is internal usless recordings. Please tell me if my burner is not enough and if I require wires/usb connections. Or should I give up and go with different free software audio editing company?
