Audio Editing Software Compared

What are the benefits of having Sony Sound Forge 9 rather than Audacity?
Audacity is the best free audio editing software out there, but compared to the several hundred dollar Sony Sound Forge 9, there has got to be a lot of benefits. Has anyone had experience with both who can tell me the differences, pros, and cons to/of each/both?
i have used audacity, sound forge, adobe audition. all are good for different reasons
the big thing about audacity is its free, and it does a reasonable job at recording tapes onto hard drives etc . but to get into higher bit rate recording ,mastering and better quality plug ins that will allow you to do a better job of recording and mastering your recording, you will need to fork out some money.
I myself like adobe audition better, I find it easier to learn and more flexible and at bout the same price.
but its a personal preference thing.
I would recommend that you take advantage of the fact that both sound forge and audition offer a 30 day free trial to try before you buy.its well worth it!
also adobe has “student discounts” that greatly reduce your costs
also if you are stuck with the free thing due to your budget there are more options than audacity
here is a link to a place where there is a lot of shareware audio stuff
