Best Mac audio software for sequencing/editing aiff samples.?

I would like to find an audio program that is good for aiff editing and sequencing all the while incorporating soft synths. I find the amount of information out there overwhelming. I use Reason but find it a pain to use my own aiff samples. I used to use Studio Vision Pro(sequencing) and SoundEdit 16(editing) on mac OS 9 but neither are available on Mac OS X.

My preference is Digital Performer from Motu

Of all the “big boys” it would be the easiest one to learn coming from Studio Vision.

You could also check out Logic Pro, but the learning curve would be steeper. ProTools has less support for softsynths, and needs Digidesign hardware attached for it to work.

You can simply drag and drop AIFF files into audio tracks in DP. You can do both destructive and non-destructive editing and all sorts of manipulation of the audio. DP comes with effects and a handful of softsynths, but for a killer system pair it with Motu’s MachFive soft sampler. It comes with 32GB of samples and can import libraries from other samplers too.
