Audio Editing Software Mp3 Editor

Know of any audio/mp3 editors that are free?
I’m looking for a free software/program download that can edit audio and music.
If you know of one that allows you to save the file as an mp3 format, please let me know. I’ve already tried two different free program downloads, and both of them say that I need to upgrade/pay to go Pro so I can save it as an mp3 format instead of a wav format.
Any suggestions would be helpful!^_^
