What Program Is Good For Editing Vocals out of an Audio Track?

I am trying to remove vocals from an audio track..I just want the music. What software can i get to do this. If there is any shareware or free software out there, that will do this, i would love to hear about it. If nothing free is around, i would like to know which program to buy.
