oh my gosh! I need help with video editing please!!!?

I would realy like to be able to edit my home movies but i dont know where to start!
I just got a new Panasonic mini dvd video camera, so how do i get the video from the dvd, on to a video editing program?
I’m pretty good with a computer but i cant seem to figure this one out. Can anyone help me please??????

plug in your cam after installing the software and save the video. then import into your favorite vid editing app
