Video Editing Software Mov
is there free video editing software like windows movie maker but works with quicktime?
my camera only records in quicktime .mov files and windows movie maker doesn’t work with that
You actually can import .mov files into WMM (Windows Movie Maker). In order to do this you need to trick the program into thinking the .mov file is a supported file type.
The first thing you need to do is make sure that you can play .mov files properly. Try to play a .mov file in the media player that you use. If it doesn’t play properly (meaning that either the video or audio doesn’t play) then that’s because you don’t have the right codecs installed on your computer to play .mov files.
If this is the case for you then I recommend you get the K-lite Mega Codec Pack. You can get that here.

Once you have that installed you should be able to play .mov files properly. But if you still can’t then I recommend you get the QuickTime Alternative Codec. You can get that here.

By now you should be able to play .mov files properly.
Now to trick the program you need to change your file extension from .mov to .avi. So for example if your file is called Hello.mov then rename it to Hello.avi. Once you’ve done this try to import the file into WMM.
If it still doesn’t work then in WMM click tools>>>options. On the compatibilaty tab make sure all your codecs are ticked. Then try importing the file again.
Hope this helps you import the .mov file into WMM.
And just so you know .mov isn’t the only file typed that can be tricked into thinking is a supported file type. I have also tricked WMM with the file types below.

.mp4
And in all cases I renamed the extension to .avi.
