Video blacking out when being edited..!?!?!?

I have a video recorded on my Canon AVHCD camcorder and copied it into my computer for editing. The file is in .MTS format and so i converted it to WMV so that i could use it Windows Movie maker for editing. The problem is while I am editing the video it blacks out suddenly and there is no audio as well. When i try again sometimes i get lucky and would be able to edit it into parts. But when i publish the movie, it stops at certain points through the video and blacks out from there until the end of the video.
Then i used a video cutter tool to directly cut it (although it takes lot of time) and it cut properly the first time round but when i tried to edit another video it blacked out there too. In the cutter software the audio is still playing while the video is blacked out.

there area two ways to treat this. One find an editor that will edit your videos in the original format.

Personally I would try using a good editor, suchas Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas they are not free but well worth the money, and effort to learn to use.

Try converting a small amount to MPEG. Its a reasonable video format. And see if that works.
