Video Editing Software Prosumer
Any advice for recording a live gig?
hello there, I plan to record a live gig in a nightclub in about’s a months time, but would like to know any tips, tricks, or general advice that would make the recording more professional.
I would also like to switch camera angles between songs if possible, or am I best avoiding that for filming’s sake?
I dont have a budget, so realistically I cant spend any money or use equipment that I haven’t got. The only thing I have got is maybe a brain, a entry-level MiniDV camcorder, some semi-prosumer video editing software… and a LOT of free time.
I will of course be heavily editing the video, revamping the audio etc. to give it more of a polished, realistic look about it. Someone also recommended that I fill the footage in with the audience “moshing” as it was, to give it more of a realistic feel to it. Would that be great too?
Again, any tips and advice is much appreciated, and thanks in advance from Chad.
The only vaguely sensible advice I can give is to try recording another gig and see what goes wrong. The obvious pitfalls are going to be poor low light performance and poor to the point of unusable sound quality. You need an external microphone and a gain control. Just trying to use a camcorder in a crowd is going to present its own problems! Getting footage of the crowd moshing or just trying to buy drinks at the bar is worth having for cutaway shots. Don’t forget to get something outside, and before the band come on stage so that you’ve got establishing shots and can capture some of the anticipation.
