Viral marketing is the latest boom that’s quietly taking over business marketing as we know it. Dd you miss the real estate boom in the 1970′s or the Internet boom in the 1980′s, then you better not miss the Viral Video Marketing boom of 2010.
Many people continue to see the results of viral video marketing, but haven’t quite learned what to make of it. Others see it as a hit or miss strategy at best and a matter of luck on the other end of the spectrum. But did you know there is an exact formula to helping videos go viral. More people are discovering and using this formula to rake in huge profits while there competition continues to scratch there heads and wonder how they do it.
Before I reveal the formula let me explain the term viral marketing. It’s a formula or strategy that encourages people to send, talk about, or pass on a marketing message to others over and over. Similar to a flu virus, a marketing virus is often caught and passed on to more people under it’s own momentum, the more it’s passed on the stronger it gets.
When you add the power of video in viral marketing you have a powerful combination. Why? Because This is the video generation and the company or person whose goal is to make a profit can no longer ignore the power of viral video marketing. But the trick is to do it according to the exact formula experts have created through years of trial and error learning.
Unfortunately, many marketers try to skip ahead or jimmy-the-lock so to speak in an attempt to jump in head first, when it comes to viral video marketing. Others luck up and get there first video to go viral, but are confused when follow up videos crash and burn in failure. But they the handful of video marketers take the time to learn the formula to viral video marketing and quietly rake in huge profits. And they do this while their competitors spend small fortunes on advertising and promotions.
Here’s the 3 step formula for viral video marketing success:
1. Have A Viral Video Marketing Plan
This is the first step most people overlook, neglect or do a poor job of. But ironically this is the most important step. Why? Because like any plan, failing to do it properly is like planning to fail. The good news is most companies don’t have a Viral Video Marketing plan. This will give you an unfair advantage and instant head start over them. You could leapfrog over your larger competitors with this step alone.
2. Make Videos Others Would Want to Pass on to Friends and Family
This means most of all it has to be entertaining, shocking or extreme in some way. There is a line between shocking and tasteless, and knowing the difference can mean success or failure when it comes to your product or service. Having a viral video passed on is good, but having it passed on for the wrong reasons is bad for profits and a reputation. The other skill needed here is to make sure the sales message doesn’t get lost, while still making the over all video entertaining and viral.
3. Piggy Back on Current Trends
The most popular viral videos have one trait in common, whether business related or talking babies, they all piggyback on current trends. Find a way to get your product or service to merge with a current trend in an entertaining, amusing or shocking way and you’re half way home. These are a few ways to produce a viral marketing niche.
